INTRODUCTION TO COLON HYDROTHERAPY
Colon hydrotherapy is the practice of introducing water into the colon in a systemized fashion under the supervision of a trained professional. The goal of the colonic is to initiate multiple bowel movements in a short period of time, thereby cleansing the colon of stool that not normally be evacuated until a later time.
Colon hydrotherapy addresses dysfunction in the colon in order to reestablish healthier bowel movements and facilitate detoxification.
During a colonic treatment session, quadruple filtered water is introduced into the colon through a small disposable speculum inserted just a few inches into the rectum. After the waste material of the colon has been softened, it is evacuated through a flexible, disposable plastic hose that connects the speculum to the colon hydrotherapy device.
On a closed system, like the one at ALETRIS, fecal matter is completely contained within the tubing and device during the treatment. The colonic usually lasts 30 to 45 minutes, and modesty is protected throughout the treatment.
During the colonic, multiple bowel movements will pass through the tubing and will be analyzed by the therapist. At the end of the treatment, the client will be directed to the bathroom where he or she may finish evacuating any stool or water remaining in the colon.
